Well what a year! Our first concert of 2023 was a joint concert with Penzance Orpheus Ladies Choir at All Saints Church Falmouth, sporting new uniforms and singing predominantly new repertoire, Mabe gave their all and sang with sensitivity, musicality and integrity, sounding rich and sonorous and lively and bright. Both choirs sang marvellously! there was an excellent tea afterwards which was thoroughly enjoyed by all!
After a couple of months of learning more new repertoire and refining ongoing pieces, on June 10 Mabe Ladies joined with Treverva Male Voice Choir at Penryn Methodist chapel to celebrate the life and work of the Chapel which is due to be closed in August 2023. It was an emotional concert for the choirs who sang with gusto and tenderness; Mabe Ladies had, until 2020 rehearsed at the Chapel for more than 50 years, the choir owes so much to PMC and that was apparent in the sheer beauty of their singing.
2 days later in a very different arena the Choir gave a widely varied and entertaining concert at Falmouth Princess Pavilions... there were solos, a Piano duet and jokes, as well as the now customary varied programme which the choir embraces, reaching out to a wide variety of musical tastes.
July 15 saw the choir returning to their home turf of Mabe where the choir started its life in the WI Hall 92 years ago... they sang at the beautiful, bijoux Church of St Laudus , another knockout programme sung with passion and fervour, making the very best of the lovely acoustic of the Church. Along with the varied and uplifting programme the choir welcomed guest soloist Peter Ashley, a young man embarking on his training in Musical Theatre at university. The choir wishes Peter all the very best in his career...
With the summer in full swing the choir will be performing one more concert at Princess Pavilions on Aug 14 at 8.00 pm before taking a well deserved summer break.
more concerts are booked for the Autumn so there is much hard work to do... the choir looks forward to welcoming our loyal audiences along with first time attendees throughout the rest of this wonderful, musical year...
